Virtual BACnet Devices

Virtual BACnet Devices are software-defined BACnet endpoints that represent non-native BACnet data sources—such as LoRaWAN® sensors or cloud-based services—as standard BACnet devices and objects within a building automation system.

These virtual devices allow external data to appear and behave like traditional BACnet points, enabling seamless integration with existing controllers and BMS platforms.

MultiTech leverages virtual BACnet devices within its gateways to present wireless IoT sensors as fully compliant BACnet entities. By assigning device instances, objects, and properties at the edge, MultiTech allows LoRaWAN® sensor data to be discovered, trended, and used in automation logic just like any physical BACnet device.

This approach simplifies system architecture, reduces integration complexity, and enables partners to extend building automation systems with flexible, wireless sensing while maintaining standards-based interoperability.
