APDU (Application Protocol Data Unit)

APDU (Application Protocol Data Unit) is the standardized BACnet message format used to exchange data, commands, and services between BACnet devices. APDUs encapsulate information such as service requests, responses, and object data, forming the foundation of communication within a BACnet network.

MultiTech ensures that IoT data integrated into building automation systems conforms to BACnet APDU requirements by performing protocol translation and message handling at the edge.

When MultiTech gateways ingest LoRaWAN® sensor data and expose it as BACnet/IP, the information is packaged into compliant BACDUs/APDUs that can be reliably interpreted by controllers and BMS platforms.

This standards-based approach preserves interoperability and allows wireless sensor data to participate fully in BACnet communications without requiring custom parsing or middleware.
