Binary Input (BI) / Binary Output (BO)

Binary Input (BI) and Binary Output (BO) are BACnet object types used to represent two-state conditions and control points within a building automation system.

Binary Inputs reflect status-based information such as door open/closed, motion detected, or equipment fault states, while Binary Outputs are used to issue on/off or enable/disable commands to building systems.

MultiTech enables these binary points to be extended wirelessly by integrating LoRaWAN® sensors into BACnet environments as native BI objects. Using MultiTech gateways, discrete sensor events—such as door status or leak detection—are translated into standard BACnet Binary Inputs and delivered over BACnet/IP.

This allows building controllers and BMS platforms to consume, visualize, and automate against binary events using familiar BACnet workflows, helping partners deploy scalable monitoring and control solutions without additional wiring or protocol complexity.
