COV (Change of Value)

COV (Change of Value) is a BACnet subscription-based messaging mechanism that allows devices to report updates only when a monitored value changes beyond a defined threshold, rather than sending data on a fixed polling interval. This approach reduces unnecessary network traffic and enables more efficient use of bandwidth and processing resources within a building automation system.

MultiTech leverages COV principles when integrating wireless IoT sensor data into BACnet environments, ensuring that meaningful changes from LoRaWAN® sensors are communicated to the BMS in a controlled and efficient manner.

By translating sensor updates into BACnet objects that support COV subscriptions over BACnet/IP, MultiTech gateways allow building systems to react promptly to changing conditions while minimizing network load—supporting scalable deployments across large or sensor-dense facilities.
